Real Moms Are Political

I was recently double-tagged by Crank Mama and Paige at The Avery Lane Experience to give the latest meme a try — a meme about real moms.

Mothergoosemouse beat me to the punch on real roms and clutter (when I saw her photos, I wondered when she had found the time to sneak into my house — naughty, naughty Julie!)
And I know you’ll enjoy Kristen’s original Real Mom post, to which I can TOTALLY (and unfortunately) relate.

I’ve been mulling over what I wanted to talk about as a ‘real’ mom, then I realized I was thinking too hard.

For me, real moms are political in every sense of the word. Just taking a quick trip through the blogosphere is evidence enough that real moms have a stake in the political arena these days, and I’m not just talking about photo ops.

Sure, we talk about our flab and our fantasies, our kids and our parenting challenges, but that doesn’t mean we’re not serious about how our political decisions being made today will impact our children and our futures (even though certain judgmental commentators would suggest otherwise).

For me, blogging about the political world was a natural — I’ve been in love with all things political since my high school days (yes, I know, I should have been getting out more!).

But the way I see it, the
women of the blogosphere are the rising political voice in our country.

I’m sure that may get a chuckle from some, but the power of networking and connecting through this relatively new medium has a power all its own that I think is bound to have an impact on what happens in the upcoming elections.

It has started and it’s growing. It’s now just a matter of critical mass.

Call me a cock-eyed optimist, but the groundwork is there. Liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican or something in between — our growing political voices are there. I know I’m ready to kick it up a notch, and I’m willing to bet there are plenty of other moms like me who are chomping at the political bit, as well.

As for passing along the meme, time for Mom Ma’am Me
, MojoMom & One Weird Mother!

Totally agree. This is a silly example, but look at what happened when Melissa at Suburban Bliss felt wronged by the Today show. There was such an outcry that they actually went back and revisited the issue. Even if you go the cynical route and say they did it for ratings, the fact is that the bloggers forced a response.

Anyone who chuckles at the idea that the women of the blogosphere are a voice and a force – well, they won’t be laughing long. We are turning this medium to our advantage, more and more every day.

CM, You are doing PLENTY to keep us focused on something else just as important (at least, that’s what Mr. PunditMom would say!)

Without you, where else would I go for that kind of blogosphere inspiration?

I love your spin on the meme. I did it on my blog, as well!

I am certain you have heard the phrase, “laughing all the way to the bank”?

I think it can be applied here. Let them laugh…..it will make it even sweeter when we take over the world! :)
