He came so close at the Oscars.
Yes, I knew before the punch line that it was a joke, but that coy rascal is still leaving the door just the teensiest bit ajar for the 2008 Presidential nomination.
If Al Gore does run, I would be conflicted, but I’ve sensed since An Inconvenient Truth hit the theaters that somehow Gore would find a way to parlay that momentum and notoriety into something more.
2008 campaigning and fundraising are in full swing, and if you’re not actually in the race, even a star turn with Leonardo DiCaprio won’t keep a candidate in the limelight.
So what’s a former vice-president (and the winner of the 2000 popular vote) to do?
Voila! — a new book!
The Assault on Reason (which has the amazingly unwieldy subtitle, How the Politics of Fear, Secrecy, and Blind Faith Subvert Wise Decision-Making, Degrade Our Democracy and Put Our Country and Our World at Peril) sound’s like Gore’s next foray into giving us a glimpse of what our country might have looked like today, had he won that Florida debacle.
That subtitle isn’t very catchy, but doesn’t that sound like a campaign manifesto in 30 words or less? And, does that subtitle make you think of anyone?
The only other thing I need to see before I’m convinced that he’s going to run is if he takes over for Kirstie Alley on the Jenny Craig commercials!

I would love it if he would run. At the very least, I’m glad to see he will be bringing more of his thoughts to the public.

I wanted to comment on your comment on Mixter’s Mix about the “real” mom meme.
I’m not only a mother to Jack, I’m a birth mother. When I talk about my son’s family, I use the phrase “my son’s parents”.
They are his parents, they are his family. It’s an open adoption and he knows that I’m his birth mother, which he choses to define as meaning that I love him, and that he “grew” in my belly.
I wish there were more positive stories out there about good, healthy adoptions. Unfortunatly Lifetime only makes movies of the bad examples.
My son’s mom’s friends would often say “how can you have her over? Aren’t you scared?”
For us it’s just never been an issue.
So long story short, as a birth mom I tell you unequivicably that you ARE a “real” mom, and that your role is so important and blessed.

Oh, the rumors!

My god, I had a nightmare about this: Al went into spring training on the Palm Beach diet and ended up on “Dancing with the Stars.” This catapulted him into the race, but who would be his running mate? As I said, this was a nightmare..and it was… Heather Mills!

I’d have the same conflict…oh it would be painful!

Yeah, I have been thinking that he’s going to need to lose a few pounds if he’s going to do it.
Mamacita – Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Well, I just keep hoping that by this point, there is nowhere to go but up. (I know, completely delusional but I have to make myself get out of bed in the mornings…)

I’m not sure if he’ll run or if he should run (especially can’t say from this side of the border), but I must say that I give Al a lot of credit. I think he’s had more positive impact on the world with that movie alone than certain elected(?) people in office. And that says a lot…

I give Gore lots of credit for his continuing body of work, but truth be told, I hope he doesn’t run.
Brother Gore gave away to 2000 election by deciding to not get in their and fight. Had he been a better fighter, he would have wiped the floor with the current idiot-in-chief. Ths same could be said of Kerry/Edwards.
Having said all of that, I hope Gore campaigns for whomever the Democrats nominate.
