Since I was flying solo on the parenting and bedtime activities last night, I did not get to see much of the Republican “debate.”
But, I did catch about a half hour toward the end and all I can say is we are in so much trouble if Rudy Giuliani gets elected president.
OK, so I’m glad that he is pro-choice. That’s a big one in my book and he’s the only Republican candidate who has the nerve to come out and say it. But after some of the comments he made last night, I have to wonder what’s going on in his head.
For example, when he said that Iraq was “one of the greatest military actions in American history,” I did the Scooby-Doo doubletake. Huh? Is there anyone who truly believes this at this stage of the game>
Giuliani added that it’s America’s obligation “to bring along our enemies” so they can “see our Democratic ideals” and embrace them, and that will ultimately bring peace to the region.
He needs to get off the terror topic. Just as the other candidates need to stop invoking what they clearly seem to perceive is the holy name of Ronald Reagan as a way of pandering and groveling to “the base.”
I know they’re not holding these debates for voters like me. There is almost no circumstance I can imagine under which I would vote for any of the GOP presidential candidates. Ever.
But Rudy seemed to be a little bit out there on how he views the current situation in Iraq.
And if those are his real views, I shudder to think of what decisions he would make about the Middle East if he was seated in the Oval Office.

OH wow. I hope he didn’t go so far as to compare it to WWII. I’m sorry I missed the debate. Or maybe I’m not sorry….

I feel guilty that I am not paying attention to the R-side of the presidential campaign, but I feel less guilty after hearing about that.
It scares me to think we could elect another man who thinks we must “spread the good news” of democracy and our way of life and that is the ONLY way countries not like ours can survive…
Yikes!
He needs to go read Longitudes and Attitudes and maybe learn a little bit about why it just might (possibly, I am not saying his way is plain wrong) not be OK to push our way of living into every nook and cranny of the world.
Sorry to rant here, it just set me off a little…
