What is the Health of a Child Worth?

Moms & Politics

With the scheduled veto override vote of the S-CHIP bill tomorrow, health care is a big topic of conversation — on the news, on the playgrounds, on the blogs.

If you need one more reason to get in touch with your Congressman or Congresswoman to find out how they are going to vote to cover children who need health insurance, stop by and read Blog Antagonist’s post today called So That Post About Health Care … or watch the Keith Olbermann interview with the parents of Graeme Frost, the 12-year-old boy who is being attacked by the right-wingers over being too “rich” to have had live-saving medical care paid for through the S-CHIP program.

Do we really need anymore reasons to change our health care system from one that’s driven by profit motives to one that makes sure that children’s lives can be saved?

Oh, and if your lawmakers say the increased funding on S-CHIP is too expensive? Just point out that the being able to cover millions more children over the next few years will cost the same amount that we’re paying now to fund the war in Iraq for about a month.

What’s worth more to you — helping someone like Graeme Frost or paying for another month in Iraq?

Who ARE you that you vote against health care for kids? I mean…that’s like a rock in the chest. IMHO, I mean.

    Good post!

  2. SabrinaT Says:

We need to be paying for BOTH! Kids need healthcare, soldiers in Iraq need funding.(until we can get them home) I am sure if we check carefuly we would find the money for both being squandered by a Senator or 2 for his/her pet project.

  3. Gunfighter Says:

Spend the money on the kids.

Spend the money on bringing our soldiers out of Iraq, right effing now.

  4. PunditMom Says:

Yes — children and protecting our soldiers deserve our money. Prolonging the war does not.

I’m with Julie on this one. And these are the same bozos that stand on those soapboxes and go on and on about family values.

    Makes me sick.
