I’m on a paying article deadline at the moment, so I’ll write more later, but MSNBC just announced that John Edwards is dropping out of the race later today.
He’ll be in New Orleans where he started the campaign to make the announcement.
I’m personally sad because I still believe he is the best Democratic candidate in the race. But I was surprised to hear on a phone call yesterday with someone — I can’t name her, but suffice it to say she’s a high-profile, African-American woman with a Ph.D in economics — who said in her opinion Edwards is more progressive on important issues like poverty and economics than Clinton and Obama.
Keeping my fingers crossed that he will have a role in a Democratic administration if Hillary or Barack can beat the Republican.

I’m crossing them with you.

I would have liked to see Edwards do well but alas, the focus was on Clinton and Obama. I’ll cross my fingers too.

Sorry PM, but this is probably it. You’re just in the fine tradition of us Marylanders who often vote for the underdog.

I’m hoping he gets appointed Secretary of Labor, personally!
