Moms & Politics

Another thing that is weighing on my mind as I try to come to grips with the decision I will make before Potomac Tuesday (although my new favorite station on XM Radio, POTUS ‘o8, is calling it Pundit Tuesday — thanks guys!) is that for once in a very long time, my primary vote in a presidential campaign will have an impact.

Living in the “Potomac” region, our primaries have been late enough in the election cycle that the Democratic nominee was a foregone conclusion by the time I stepped in the voting booth. Of course, I still voted, but the outcome was usually a fait accompli.

Now that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are pretty much tied (though some are calling the night for Obama), the campaigns are wanting to get to know us Mid-Atlantic voters a little better. Hmmmm — where were you guys a couple of months ago when we wanted to talk??

They were apparently thinking this, when they should have been thinking this.

I’ll admit it. If any candidate is interested in talking to voters, I’m there. I’m just easy that way!

But how to choose? How to decide? I envy those who have already voted or decided or committed. I’ve never had a long-lasting electoral experience like this (sorry, I couldn’t help myself with that one!) where I couldn’t decide.

Of course, I will, as we all must sooner or later. Even the votes of my parents, who don’t cast their ballots until April, may have an impact on deciding the identity of the Democratic nominee.

Guess I’d better have a Pina Colada tomorrow to help me come to a resolution on this! Yes, you heard me — the PunditMom family heads for a warmer clime for a long weekend tomorrow. Seriously, knowing me, I’ll still be ruminating on this one on the flight home.

But just because I’m away, doesn’t mean there won’t be punditry going on here!

Make sure you stick around, because some amazing women of the blogosphere have agreed to keep the political discussion going while I’m flagging down the cabana boy for another Diet Coke!

It’s been a hard decision, but after everything is said and one I plan on voting for Obama. Clinton as everyone says has too much baggage and if she runs against McCain he is sure to win! And frankly Bill was kind of scaring me 2 weeks ago – while normally I love him. I don’t want there to be co-presidents frankly, although some people think it’s a good idea.

Bossy knows what she wants to do, she just needs the darn lever. In her next life she’s moving to Iowa where her primary vote will count.

Have a great trip! And good luck making your decision. It’s a relief to have it over with, I confess.

Our vote isn’t for another month, but it is looking like, for the first time in my life, my primary vote may count. Of course, like you, I’m having difficulty choosing.

This is great! I’ve been looking for a place to read about other moms who think like I do and allow me to speak my mom voice for what I think is important.

I’ll throw in some jokes next time. Or I’ll just laugh at some jokes at Romney’s expense.
