You are soooo right on, here, PunditMom. If we don’t call them out for gender-biased reporting, or for the marginalizing of female candidates, nothing will change. Michelle Obama needs to hang on to her hat, because we strong, opinionated women really threaten the status quo. karoli makes a good point, too re: Adams. And we all know he wasn’t the only one who had a strong wife! Keep the faith, girls, and keep calling ‘em likes ya sees ‘em!

Despite my envy (M.Obama is gorgeous, intelligent, and younger than I am!), I think she’s a fantastic woman. Yes, let’s keep the gender bias and attacks on strong women OUT of the campaign. Activist women don’t have to stay home, bake cookies, and host teas.

AAAAmen. I wrote a post last weekend about the turn from HRC to MO, and how important it was to take the lessons from Hillary and apply them to Michelle, and to speak up when we saw it happen.

If Michelle Obama is treated the same as HRC (which it seems clear she will be), then HRC's candidacy stood for nothing.

I've been watching John Adams this weekend. One of the striking themes is the depth of Abigail Adams'involvement in John Adams' public service, and the weight he gave to her counsel. Strong, intelligent, educated wives of political candidates isn't a new thing at all and they're certainly an asset, just as a strong man married to a female candidate should be. Yet, somehow the Republicans keep trying to make that a liability. Time for the media and the populace to push back on that notion.
