      Sad. Simply depressing.

It’s like anyway. You “hate” a collective idea but when it comes down to individuals – one on one – it’s a very different story.

It’s easy to demonize an unknown but I imagine there are many Italians with American family members or friends they care for very much.

Living in Canada, I have encountered a very anti-American sentiment but not towards me as a person because I am a known. It’s directed toward the government and our culture. We are perceived as selfish ultra consumers, using up our resources and ready to take from our neighbors when we run out at home.

We can’t just blame Bush. He is the ultimate symptom of what we’ve allowed our country to sink to.

I am truly sick and tired of the same people who come crying to us for aid and everything else (though I realize that is not the case with Italy) and then declare how much they despise us!

Maybe they’re still pissed about how we’ve bastardized the notion of “Italian Food” to be expressed through “Olive Gardens”.

Meh. Probably not. They’ve been saying it longer than Bush has been in office.
