It’s hardly even started, and John McCain can’t resist the chance to make us think things that just aren’t true.
His new ad is a compare/contrast about 1969 — McCain’s faulty reference to the “summer of love.” Aside from his chronological error, see if you can guess what’s wrong with this ad …
Makes you wonder what Barack Obama was doing in 1969, right? Probably some sort of hippie thing? Protesting the war while McCain was in that POW camp? I guess those things are possible, but highly unlikely — Obama was only eight-years-old in 1969.
Now, as the mother of an eight-year-old, I know PunditGirl has a lot of strong opinions, even about politics. But I also know she’s WAY more focused on how much TV she can watch on any given day and whether I’ve lined up a play date for her so she doesn’t have to hang out with her boring old mom.
If I have to watch these McCain ads, the grain of salt I’m going to need is going to be as big as a salt lick.
When PunditMom isn’t shaking her head over political smear tactics, you can also find her at MOMocrats, The Huffington Post and BlogHer, where she is a Contributing Editor for Politics & News.

“I’m John McCain. And I’m old.”
Not that there’s anything unqualifying about being old. But an ad about something you were doing almost 40 years ago is essentially a statement about your age, not qualifications. The 20 year old John isn’t running for president. It’s the old guy. I want to know what he did and though yesterday, and this morning. Not what he did 40 years ago.

Actually I think it’s less about what Barack Obama was doing but letting you know that while McCain was honorably serving his country he was also totally out of touch with the changes that occurred in the 1960s!
