Goodbye Hillary, Hello Hillary

Republicans

What’s that famous line from Godfather III? Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in again??

Poor Al Pacino. At least he was only dealing with the mafia. Hillary Clinton, I’m betting, will be experiencing the same thing, only with presidential politics which I’ve decided might be even a little more cut-throat than having to manage “the family.”

After she gave her convention speech last week, I wondered if Hillary would now be fading out of view at least through January, even though both Hillary and Barack had assured America she would have a significant campaign role. But as with all things in life, you just never know what’s coming up around the next turn.

So when Alaska Governor Sarah Palin came onto the scene last week as John McCain’s running mate, I knew that Hillary would have to run to the dry cleaners after this Labor Day weekend to get her “traveling pantsuits” ready for a new leg of Road to the White House 2008.

Because in addition to the right-wing ultra-conservative story Palin can tell, she has one that others will be able to relate to — that of the working-mother. The one with a full-time job and a house full of children, including a newborn. The one about working her way up the ladder to land a job no one ever thought she would get.

While the stories of Clinton and Palin are, as they say, apples and oranges, Obama is going to need Hillary Clinton out there on that maternal wall in an effort to convince voters that the Democrats are still focused on the stories and lives of working mothers, even though the female photo ops are going to go to the Republicans.

I know Hillary can do it one more time. I just wonder what post in an Obama administration he’ll have to promise her to get Hillary to bring her pantsuits out of temporary retirement?

I am beginning to think Hillary has an addition…to pantsuits. That yellow number? I call it Rock Bottom.
I’d be all for an intervention. Do you think we could swoop down on her and whisk her away to Nordstrom in Montgomery Mall? We could have my personal shopper Amanda, you, me and GoonSquadSarah all in the Girlfriend’s Dressing Room when she arrives. Then we could confront Hillary and tell her we’re concerned about her and want to have her commit to wearing seperates before it’s too late.

    2. Devra Says:

that would be “addiction” not “addition.” Lord knows she need not add another pantsuit!!!!

I believe that Clinton has gone above and beyond for Barack. He needs to either suseneed or fail on his own. She is afterall not his mama. We need at least one Senator in Washington.

PS I love the pants suits especially the orange. She is an original.

Apparently, it takes a woman to get anything done in this country.

I am FACINATED by how important HRC still is in this election. Obama may be the nom, but he can’t seem to win this without her help. Both of the Clintons are powerful allies to have right now, but can he – or should he – win this without them? I hope the party has unified enough to do whatever it takes to get him elected, and her continuing to vouch for him would be to both of their benefits. If she keeps pulling for him, he does owe her. He might not be able to win this election without her and he can’t ignore the leadership she can bring this country under an Obama Administration.

This thing just gets more and more interesting, doesn’t it?

I think Hillary is going to need to be visible on this until Palin stops using the 18 million cracks comment and other things that Hillary used in the campaign. Also, I think it is important for other congresswomen to follow up Hillary and say “Palin is no Hillary Clinton” especially on the issues (equal pay, abortion, etc.) I think women will speak to women this election.

    9. PunditMom Says:

Oh, Devra, I would LOVE to be in on a Pantsuits intervention!

Hillary Clinton will need to go as many extra miles as necessary because Obama needs to be elected. I agree that other congresswomen need to step up to become more visible and vocal on Obama’s behalf. In Maine we have two women senators, both republicans. When they start talking about McCain, people will listen. I want to hear the voices of women in support of Obama, even if I have to look to other states to get it.

I can’t understand why other women senators, including Hillary, are not raising their voices in support of Obama. As a woman, I am vehemently opposed to Ms. Palin’s views and believe that she’ll set us back several decades. C’mon, Hillary, get those fabulous pantsuits on and lead the charge against Ms. Palin. We want Democrats in the White House, not Bush in lipstick (aka Ms. Palin)…
