GOP Says "Lose Your Home, Lose Your Vote?"

Making Our Political Voices Heard

I haven’t had time to digest this yet, but a lawsuit was filed yesterday in Michigan to stop an alleged effort by the Republican party there to keep people whose homes are being foreclosed on from voting in the upcoming election.

The effort, according to the lawsuit, has been dubbed “Lose Your Home, Lose Your Vote.”

If this is real, I’m assuming the GOP thinks that more Democrats than Republicans will be in foreclosure?

Can I even count the ways this is disgusting? Just reading about it makes me feel like a need a shower.

More to come. Do I detect some Karl Rove-ian involvement here?

This is true. I blogged about it last Friday. Links to news articles on my post.

This is insane, one more reason I am a Democrat.

What a shameless, hateful tactic this is… has the Republican party come down to this… just a bunch of unscrupulous “swift boaters”?
This should be publicized widely so more people know what they are up to.
    Are they really this desperate?
    This makes me sick.

I’m IN Michigan and I’ve heard only brief mention of this…on NPR. I’d say it’s unbelievable, but considering it’s point of origin, I’ll believe just about anything.

What – so not only are you poor but you are also disenfranchised.

Are they LORDS or politicians. There is no way on planet earth this is constitutional.

It’s true that there is a lawsuit. But that’s all that’s true at this point. Here is a quote from the Detroit News (please note the last paragraph, and full story here – http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008809170349):

“In their lawsuit, the Obama campaign and the DNC sought to tie the allegation to Republican practices dating to the 1980s. Bauer compared the idea to the practice of “caging,” the subject of legal battles as recently as 2004, when Republicans challenged 35,000 Ohio voter registrations after voters at registered addresses failed to return postcards mailed by the GOP.

But aside from that history, and the disputed quote, Democrats offered no additional evidence that Republicans ever had a foreclosure plan.”

On the other hand, fraudulent applications have actually been found as a result of ACORN’s efforts to register low and moderate income families to vote. Story here: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008809140383

Glad to see you post about something other than Sarah Palin, PM. My first reaction to this story was how disingenuous and ironic it is of the ACORN-supporting Barack Obama to be involved in a voter fraud case. Upon further research, I see that this lawsuit is based on conjecture and an apparent quote from a local GOP official, which said official has denied. How do you, PunditMom, feel about a lawsuit being based on a possible misquote?

My God. I thought I had read EVERYTHING that I could possibly read that showed the RP in their worst light – but you’ve shown me how very wrong I was. As I sit here in my CHICKS FOR OBAMA shirt, I am shocked beyond words. WOW

    Great blog,
