Plenty of people will be hashing out whether the hundreds of thousands of dollars the Republican National Committee spent on clothes and “accessories” for Sarah Palin and her family was a legitimate political expense. I’m sure her daughters probably needed a couple of nice dresses — after all, they probably don’t get all gussied up for school in Wasilla! And, OK, maybe some of Palin’s old governor suits were a little worn. This little number in the photo should definitely be retired!
But if this is what the GOP thinks is a reasonable amount to spend on a professional wardrobe, then it’s no wonder our country is in such a financial mess!
Nice suits aren’t cheap — I get it. I had to buy professional clothes for a long time as a reporter and an attorney. But even if you’re buying them at Saks, do you know how many suits or outfits you can buy for $150K?!
If Palin really wanted to show her populist chops, she’d be shopping at Target — after all, you can get some cute Isaac Mizrahi outfits and shoes (even peep, toes!) for so much less! Trust me! I own these:

… and they are just as cute as the red shoes Palin wore on the day of her VP announcement and these only cost $25!
And come on — how fashion forward is THIS suit jacket? $49.99 is a LOT more reasonable than $1,049.99!

The RNC was SO robbed! But I guess that’s what happens when you send a bunch of old Republican guys out to buy a woman’s wardrobe. And guess who Palin can thank for making her wardrobe windfall (barely) legal? At least she’s probably going to have to declare them as income! :O
Tim Gunn!! Stacy & Clinton!! Where are you??

Oh, I don’t know. Shows a bit of intelligence on her part. Why let the RNC use you for chump change? If you are going to sell your soul, put a hefty price on it.

I so agree, and I’m so happy to have stumbled upon your blog today. This is a huge story and at what a bad time for the Republicans! I’ve been obsessed with Sarah Palin’s clothes and look for a while now: http://www.theladiesparadise.com
Thanks!

We’ve come a long way since Richard Nixon talked about his wife’s “respectable Republican cloth coat” in the Checkers speech.
How scary is that?

I hear that Palin likes selling high ticket items on eBay. Maybe she’ll sell her clothes and go back to wearing sweats after the election. Yeah, right!

First of all those shoes are really fabulous. Secondly, unfreakinbelievable. Not only is the cost of her clothes incredible, but the choice is too. Just who is responsible for dressing her like a dominatrix librarian? I long for Hillary’s pantsuits.

you just dont get it, target is not Presidential enough. Its for us middle class people. Now, if those same shoes had a saks fifth avenue sticker, then its an entire different ball game.

I think she looks fabulous and represents women well! We should be congratulating her on her sense of style, not berating her into an unkept hippy!

Unkempt hippy?
