If a Sore Knee & an Ear Infection Make a Family Uninsurable, We’ve Got a Bigger Problem Than I Thought

My fellow MOMocrat and friend Sheila Bernus Dowd has a little something to say about health care and health insurance in a new feature at MOMocrats called “Hear My Story.”  There’s so much fighting, even, as I’m discovering the hard way, among friends, about finding the best way to fix the problems with how health and medical care is distributed — dare I say, already rationed — in our country, that it’s time to focus on individual stories rather than abstract legislative policy to get the real picture.

A full blog post is over at MOMocrats, but I wanted to post the video here of Sheila talking about why she and her family have become uninsurable.

I shudder to think what will happen to all of us if these relatively small maladies of everyday family life start making the rest of us uninsurable.  If Sheila’s story isn’t the definition of a system that is broken beyond repair, I don’t know what is.

Many on Capitol Hill want us to be distracted by these false stories about future rationing and “death” panels.  But if we can stay focused on the real stories of real families, maybe we can come out of this with real medical care for everyone who needs it.

U.S. which claims itself to be the first world, still dosen’t have a govt supported healthcare system for the people, is really a shame!!!!!! Most of the major european countries like U.k.,France,Germany and the socalled thirdworld countries(i ,myself come from one) has healthcare system supported by the govt so that everybody can have access, it’s the peoples right to have a good healthcare system to take care of them when necessary….i don’t know why people who donot support this reform are scared of what????? terrorism ion health care!!!!!!!!!

      Joanne,
Thanks so much for posting my video and spreading my story. It has been quite a nightmare, but with folks like you in my corner I know it has got to get better for ALL of us.

Absolutely right; we must stay focused on the goal of health care for all. I live in fear of losing our coverage. I may need to “retire” early due to my disability (hearing impairment), and then what will happen to my disabled child (blind, autistic) and his medical coverage?

Here is what happened to my mom (a 30 year veteran health care worker) at a recent town meeting about health care reform!

There is so much fear and misinformation out there.
