And Now I’ll Go Bang My Head Against the Wall

brick_wallCNN is apparently auditioning “talent” for a new talking head show a la Crossfire.  The names of those they are interested in?  Here’s the list according to MediaBistro:

Steven A. Smith

Cenk Uygur

Joe Watkins

Roland Martin

Errol Lewis

Steve Malzberg

Joe Pagliarulo

Really?  Did they think we wouldn’t notice a little something missing here? Didn’t I write about this before??

Don’t get me wrong.  I LOVE being invited to appear on CNN or CNN.com, but how about more estrogen on these regular pundit shows.   Or as regular contributors?  At the moment, only about three percent of the “clout” positions on television news are held by women.  That’s worse than the 15-ish percent of women’s voices in the op-ed pages of major newspapers.

Ladies, maybe it’s time to launch our own show.  Perhaps there are some other PunditMoms or PunditGals ready to start a show with me?  Because if CNN and the others aren’t going to invite us to their party, maybe we’ll just have to have our own.

Totally with you. More regular estrogen needed!

  2. Caroline Says:

This is outrageous. If their show had even a handful of the MOMocrats (you included) on there, it would rock out any other Crossfire news show on air. What are they thinking. Hey CNN? *WE NOTICE*

I want to know why You’re not on the list!

  4. Tracee Sioux Says:

Oh, and I can’t think of anything more fun than doing a show with PunditMom. I’m in!

  5. PunditMom Says:

It’s actually shocking — did they not notice this when they put out the list?

And thanks for the vote of confidence!

  6. Emily Says:

Ridiculous – not even one token female for consideration. CNN should be ashamed of themselves.

  7. Daisy Says:

Our party will have better treats.

For goodness’ sake!! How’d they miss that?! I’d vote you on–

Didn’t you know? Women don’t care about hard-core issues like politics and foreign policy and business. We are happy to talk about shopping and the PTA while we sip coffee in our kitchen — let’s let the men on television tell us what to think about all those topics that hurt my brain. (Sounds like a case for the Women’s Media Center.)

Now that 2 women are going to be the anchors of prime time news the women slots have been filled. It’s done. They don’t have to worry about that anymore. We have been placated.

(I don’t believe this, just thinking like them.)

I’m really hoping that there will be a supplemental list soon of the women they are considering. Will it be as long as the current list of men?
