Hi Punditmom, having only fur children I was always worry about the animals. I made my donation to the Humane Society International. Couldn’t afford much but every dollar counts.

Okay, contrary to what I said earlier, I am counting ALL comments, and I’ll be sending my donation to SOS Children’s Village’s Haiti Emergency Appeal. Donations made at their Canadian site will be matched by the Canadian Federal Government.

Laurie, I hope you didn’t take offense to the “moms” thing — you are a wonderful friend and writer and I did not mean to be exclusive, just trying to be catchy!

You’re not the only one I’ve read today who is thinking about the idea of time, words, our relative privilege here in America. It’s something I want to focus on more in this new year, as well.

I’m not a mom so I won’t use the hashtag (no hard feelings, but I’m for Haiti too. I know you all get it. ) I will likely send my money to Doctors Without Borders and a little bit more to Yele (Wyclef’s organization.) when I can. I’ve been sifting through all of the options and can’t stay away from the news – so much need, it’s overwhelming. If I could leave my job and go down there to help in person, I would. Unimaginable.

My other contribution is going to be to really examine what I’m doing with myself – my time and my words. Stuff like this really brings privilege home to me – I’m reading bickering on Twitter now and just shaking my head. The things we have the privilege of arguing over, you know?

Thanks for helping to keep the focus where it ought to be.
