I just discovered your blog, and I wish I had sooner! I was one of those parents waiting to adopt from Haiti – and I can’t tell you what this kind of advocacy means to me. THANK YOU.

We share a lot of similar views and I look forward to following along. I also write for svmoms (the OC group) so perhaps I will see you at the Blogher party!

As an adoptive mom who has been cleared through every possible government agency in order to adopt my Guatemalan-born daughter, I would be happy to foster two Haitian children. If their parents or family can be found, I will enthusiastically return them to their parents. If their parents cannot be found, I’m sure that there will be families who would be happy to adopt them – perhaps even mine!

I would be willing to bet that there are many people who share my feelings.

To answer the question:
Why is it that healthy, white, well-dressed adults were being shuttled out of Haiti and those orphans are still outside in the heat?

I’ve been watching the footage also and find it heart-breaking how many orphans there were in Haiti. However, I’m thinking it was much easier to get adults with passports, etc. out of there than the children. I’m so glad that some of the children have been removed from Haiti and put into their adoptive homes. What’s upsetting is how many are left and how many new orphans there are now, because of the quake.

I am really concerned about what happens when the spotlight comes off of Haiti. Six months from now when the world has moved on, what then.

Thank you for this and thank you everyone who has focused on this cause like a mama bear. You need the relentless right now to focus on individual causes. If you focus on just the daunting big picture of Haiti, it would make you run to a corner and rock in the fetal position.
