What’s the Clean Air Act? Ask Senator Jeanne Shaheen

U.S. Senator and former New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen has taken up the cause of protecting the air we all breathe.  In this video, she explains clearly and concisely why allowing the Environmental Protection Agency to do its job — and one that’s now been ordered by a federal court –  is so important.  As a long-time elected representative, she’s wise to the ways of corporate America and the arguments being made by the companies who want to keep polluting. She knows they’re non-starters.

Senator Shaheen is also a mom of three and a grandma to seven.  So she’s got a significant stake in protecting the air we’re all breathing and not being fooled by false arguments about just having to suffer with air that gets dirtier and more toxic for our kids every year, because it would just cost too much to make the changes to power plants to cut down on dangerous emissions that cause health problems for tens of thousands of Americans every year.

So what do you think?  Do you agree with Senator Shaheen?  If so, you can help right from your laptop or home computer.  Quick, easy, and painless!

There’s still a little more than a month to make your voice heard in the EPA comment period about enforcing the Clean Air Act and how to make that happen.  If you’re in favor of that, take just a few minutes to send your comments in an email to a-and-r-docket@epa.gov.  At the top of your email, make sure you include these two reference numbers:

Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2011-0044 (NSPS action)

Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2009-0234 (NESHAP action)

And don’t forget to add your name, hometown and state at the bottom.  Then tell the EPA why they should keep our kids’ lungs in mind when those who want to protect the financial interests of the polluters come calling.

I’m being compensated by the Environmental Defense Fund, a non-profit environmental advocacy group, to write about the EPA legislation, the rule-making  and the EPA’s efforts to clean up our air, but I think you know that if I don’t believe in something, I don’t write about.  If you want to learn more, check out the posts from the other mothers at Moms Clean Air Force.
