The summers seem to get hotter and more humid every year in the shadow of the nation’s capital. So I am looking forward to a couple of days of cooler weather as I head off to San Diego shortly for BlogHer ’11, as well as the Women Create Media: Empowering Women in the Digital Age conference. You’ll find me at couple of different places around these events talking about and selling/signing my second “baby,” Mothers of Intention: How Women and Social Media are Revolutionizing Politics in America. If you’re afraid of “politics,” don’t worry — it’s a gentle, bipartisan look at how women are becoming empowered to create social change through social networking.
At the Women Create Media conference, started by the lovely Rock and Roll Mama, I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences of becoming a published author and sharing what I’ve learned about taking a blog to a book format and navigating the publishing process.
As for BlogHer ’11, 1he great women at Moms Clean Air Force have invited me to hang out at their booth Friday and Saturday morning to sell and sign copies of Mothers of Intention. It’s a perfect fit because the women at MCAF are Mothers of Intention in their own right, advocating for cleaner air for our kids to help prevent the myriad of health issues that polluted air is undeniably causing for innumerable American children. Plus, if you stop by, you’ll be able to get all sorts of information to help you advocate for your own children.
So why am I telling you where I’m going to be? Well, I’m also having my first “Where is PunditMom” scavenger hunt! If you find me and you’ve purchased a copy of my book (you’ll have to show me proof!), you’ll be entered into a giveaway I’ve put together of some lovely items I think you’ll enjoy:
First, the kind folks at New Balance are providing a shiny new pair of their New Balance 890 running shoes for one lucky winner. They’re SOOO pretty!
Of course, if you need more information than my analysis of their prettiness, the New Balance site describes this shoe as “featuring a unique, innovative and revolutionary new foam compound, RevLite, which is designed for the runner who wants to run fast or feel fast in a lightweight package without sacrificing durability, cushioning or support.”
Do you know Robin Plemmons? If not, you should (she’ll be at BlogHer ’11, too). I met her recently at the Type-A Parent conference and bought some of her amazing artwork. When I asked if she’d contribute something for a giveaway, she didn’t hesitate, and it’s something that any budding PunditMom should have — a beautiful 6″ x 6″ hand-painted wood block that says, “Find your voice and share it.”
If you like art, I’ve got one of my pieces of photography from our trip to China last year that I will frame and sign — a few people I’ve given it to have loved it, and I hope you will, too.
I have a small book collection I’ve been saving up for this occasion, which includes the most recent book by Judith Warner, We’ve Got Issues: Children and Parents in the Age of Medication and Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project. Plus, the fabulous Julia Beck of Forty Weeks says she’ll find something fabulous in her closet o’ baby producst (think: lovely diaper bag!) just for good measure.
If you find me at any point during the Women Create Media conference and/or BlogHer ’11, you’ve purchased a copy of Mothers of Intention and you give me your business card, when the conferences are over, I’ll have a drawing for these great prizes!
So, I hope to see you in cool San Diego and let me sign your copy of Mothers of Intention!
