Slut or Snob: Which is the Bigger Political Badge of Honor?

Did anyone seriously think that in 2012 we’d be calling people “snobs” for suggesting that every American child should have the opportunity to go to college?  Or that women taking responsibility for their “ladies’ health” issues would be “sluts?”

Maybe I’ve been taking this all wrong.  I’ve been all offended and hurty, when maybe I should be honored:

Next thing you know, I’ll be a “hussy” for asking my doctor about hormone replacement to help out with those “older lady” problems.  I wouldn’t mind wearing that label as a badge of honor!

It’s such a freeing thing to reach an age where others’ POVs of me and what I do no longer mean anything to me.

It’s an awesome thing to know who I am, like and love who I am (warts and all). That way whenever anyone has anything negative to say about me or to me it’s like water off a duck’s back.

Maybe if we saw ourselves and each other as humans first and foremost, these slurs, labels and/or badges of “honor” wouldn’t mean much in the larger scheme of things.

    Just my humble two cents…

Traci, that’s a great perspective. While I have reached a “certain age” where that is true, sometimes it’s hard to remember that each day. But I do love when women are able to “own” language.

    I guess I’m both…ha.
It is an interesting world we live in now; one where sound bites are more meaningful than actual discourse. I think people even think in Facebook update or Tweets. So much is lost when we can’t go deeper. Thanks for your humorous and thoughtful points!

Excuse me (a man) for being in here, I’ll leave shortly.

But, I wonder if any of these men would be talking about womens health issues if a female was still in the race?

My severely disabled seventeen year old daughter is a slut! She takes a form of birth control to help control the hormones that cause her to have more seizures!

@Cop, Men are always welcome here! We just don’t get that many, so feel free to jump in on the convo

  8. Stephanie Says:

Slut, snob, call me whichever, so long as birth control and college are accessible to everyone who wants them.

Thanks Pundit Mom,I think I will stay awhile

It appears that all of the GOP hopefulls have never taken biology, or had a serious talk with their wives.

May be some women would love to go a few months without any cramps

And as much as some men complain about women PMS-ing, you would think more men would want to allow women access to birth control.

And one last thing(since I am on a roll)

If none of the GOP front runners believe in birth control (I assume this includes condoms)but they have no problem with health insurance providing Viagra, should they all have around 9 or 10 kids?

    Just my rant.
