Supreme Court and “Obamacare”: A Win/Win for American Families

American families across the country are breathing a major sigh of relief. The Supreme Court has ruled that the Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as “Obamacare“) is constitutional and that Congress was within its power to mandate that Americans buy health insurance or be subject to a financial penalty.

Now, there are all sorts of legal aspects to this case that will be parsed in the coming days — especially the part in which the law was ruled constitutional not under the Commerce Clause, as had been argued, but as a part of Congress’ taxing authority — but this is amazing news for families who have been cut off from insurance because of pre-existing conditions, lifetime limits on insurance coverage and who couldn’t come up with out-of-pocket payments for preventative services, like mammograms, that some policies wouldn’t cover.

This is also good news for the Obama campaign and Democrats around the country. Republicans now will have a hard time claiming at rallies that the President’s administration overreached on trying to fix the health care problems in this country. The GOP was counting on what they thought would be a reliable 5-4 conservative majority to blast the President’s plan to help all Americans afford health insurance and medical care. Republicans were just waiting for the cudgel to be handed to them, so they could launch their summertime efforts of bashing the President, hoping that would win them votes for Mitt Romney.

Looks like they need a Plan B (no, not that Plan B!) for attacking the President. Their attempts for blame him for rising gas prices as a campaign tactic are in the tank (so to speak!) now that prices are dropping, now the main part of their plan of attack for the rest of the election season is gone. I know they’ve got other issues they’re going to use, but the Republican party had pretty much put all their eggs in this basket as the one specific thing they could attack on.

According to news reports, Republicans who were in the courtroom as the justices read their opinions had their jaws drop and their eyes rolled back in their heads. They did NOT expect this. They expected another Bush v. Gore — another instance when the high court showed its political leanings rather than its judicial analysis.

Republicans lost today and the Democrats, and Americans, won.

I have a feeling that Chief Justice Roberts won’t be getting any summer barbeque invitations anytime soon from the Romney campaign or the GOP attack machine!

I was totally expecting it to be shot down, too. What a great day! And I just love that they can’t blame it on a “liberal” court! That’s your guy, GOP, that just ruled in favor of ACA!

I am still in total shock! I thought for sure even if everything else got upheld the individual mandate would have been shot down. And to think ti went 6-3 on that! Miraculous. Justice Roberts while conservative always seemed to me like a good guy and not a nutcase like 2 of the other ones on the Court.

Totally shocked here, too. Apparently, the Chief Justice was less skeptical about the law than other conservatives. The Romney campaign and lots of conservatives must be having a good stiff drink right now as they try to figure out how to campaign through November.

MITT ROMNEY IS EITHER A HYPOCRITE OR JUST PLAIN STUPID OR JUST A LIAR

Am I the only person that thinks Mitt Romney is either a hypocrite or just plain stupid or just a liar? Was it not Governor Mitt Romney that introduce and past a “Healthcare Reform Bill” as Governor of Boston Mass.? Is it not true that President Obama “Affordable Healthcare Reform Plan” . Was model from Mitt Romney “Healthcare Reform Bill”? Why would Romney be against 49 other states enjoying the same as Boston Mass.? Does Romney believe that the citizen of Boston Mass. are better then 49 states of citizen?

Mitt Romney while Governor saw the need for a “Healthcare Reform Bill” introduce and past it! WHY? How can Mitt Romney argue against President Obama “Affordable Healthcare Reform Plan” ? Either Romney is a hypocrite or just plain stupid or a liar! The decision of the “Supreme Court. prove Romney and the Republican Tea party. Or on the wrong side of America and against Americans!

The decision of the “Supreme Court” also should prove that Mitt Romney is not ready be President for all America! Another point every time a pundit states! That the American people don’t know whats in the “Affordable Healthcare Reform Plan” ! That is a insult!!!!! If you don’t have insurance you are uninsured PERIOD!!!!!!! What is in the Affordable Healthcare Reform Plan” is for the uninsured to be insured! Another thing when you hear pundits claim this bill is for the poor…..TOTAL LIE! The Healthcare Bill is for the uninsured! There are American with money without Healthcare!

After 7 decade of American President fail efforts to get a Healthcare plan past. President Obama did it within his first year as President! But let me make it clear President Obama has many accomplishments and achieve historical victory for the country! This IS NOT a single issue President. American families across the country are breathing a major sigh of relief. The Supreme Court has ruled that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional and that Congress was within its power to mandate that Americans buy health insurance or be subject to a financial penalty.

WRONG!!!!!!!

I was so relieved. However, since the Republicans have been successful in convincing the majority of Americans that “Obamacare” is evil, even though they approve of the individual merits of the plan, I think the conservatives will continue their brainwashing of the under-informed on this issue. Maybe they will shift a little and concentrate on how Obama is raising “taxes” for those who don’t want to be insured.

I just heard of this blog and started reading all the comments regarding the Obama Care Mandate. I wanted to understand what women were thinking. I have paid a tremendous amount of attention to this issue. I believe that the cost of health care needed to be addressed but we had “health care”. Yes, Costs were escalating, pre-existing conditions needed attention and life threatening illness were financially bankrupting families. These are very important problems that needed to be addressed and very seriously. For the majority of citizens, however, we could go to our own doctors, pay our co-pays and get the medical services we needed. Why couldn’t we just have worked on these issues? Why was it important to change everything? Why couldn’t the government create another program that would cover these types of liabilities under a special umbrella, such as the Medicare program is for senior citizens healthcare or some other solution that would keep the good and fix the bad. How many people do you know would buy a car from a car salesman that told you “trust me, just buy the used car, I’ll send you the bill without an amount, and then you can take it to a mechanic to check it out?” I don’t think anyone would. You would run as fast as you can and go to another dealership. Well that is exactly what happened. We haven’t fixed any problems, as much as politicians say they have. My health care costs have gone up over 20% in the last two years. I have a pre-existing illness and if I lose my healthcare through the organization I now get my insurance with, I will pay dearly. In addition, I spoke to my Doctor about all the new regulations regarding medicare. Due to the low amount of reimbursement from the Government he will not be able to continue to see Medicare patients. Which will happen to millions of seniors. Where will they go? Why to the government plan. I don’t know about you but I don’t feel great about taking my medical issues to the government. Have you been to the DMV lately. How is the Postal Service doing? These are just two examples of government run agencies? Let’s not forget about the mandate for every citizen to be taxed for this service. We have just given the government more power to tax us. All we have done is transferred the healthcare insurance company premiums to the IRS. We have most certainly screwed our Senior Citizens. The people that need it the most and probably put the nail in the medicare program forever. Congratulations Ladies! You bought it hook, line, and sinker.
