The work/life “balance conundrum is always a topic that’s ripe for discussion because there will never be a day when parents in general, and mothers in particular, don’t beat themselves up for the choices we all have to make. Finding a new way to talk about that, especially after the recent Atlantic article about whether that will ever change, was the topic for my latest invitation to the Melissa Harris-Perry Show (aka “nerdland”) on MSNBC! It was great to be able to talk with some wonderful women with various takes on the topic, so I hope you enjoy the clips below.

Thank you, Melissa Harris-Perry and all the great producers and staff there for having me back! I can’t wait for the next discussion! I’m also enjoying the new hashtag #allhaving! It hits just the right tone in the discussion.

“Why do we assume that we have to mother sooo intensely?”
This is a very important question and it goes hand in hand with frequent declarations that working mothers herald the decline of civilized behavior.
I’m glad you were able to post the segments.

We are always working to find a balance instead of just enjoying all the balls we are juggling.

Hi,
What is your opinion on stay at home dads?
Thanks,
John

That’s an excellent question. I know it’s a whole different set of issues for stay-at-home dads in terms of cultural criticism. But I think society expects working moms to be the ones to do “it all” whereas I’m not sure that’s expected of stay-at-home dads. Or is it?
